Saginaw Bay Fishing Report - Au Gres
July 13, 2008
Last week's storms put a bit of a damper on Saginaw Bay's walleye action.  We couldn't get more than two consecutive days without thunderstorms moving through.  However, even under those conditions, walleye fishing was very good in the 24-30 foot depths and excellent in th near-shore weed beds around the bay. Many anglers fishing these shallower waters were taking daily limits, however, the walleye were generally smaller and the catfish and sheephead (freshwaterdrum) were plentiful.  Some nice perch were also caught while trolling crawler harnesses.  Smallmouth bass were being caught in a number of the rock and rubble-strewn areas ofhe bay.  Good largemouth fishing took place evenings around near-shore weedbeds, and a few northern pike (one scaled16 pounds) were also landed.

The best walleye action was south of  Pt. AuGres in 29-30 feet of water all the way down to Bouy One at the mouth of the Saginaw River. Near-shore fishing was excellent off the Rifle River Bar, the Pinconning Bar, the Black Hole and "The Slot" off Sebewaing. A few anglers were using plastic plugs, but 99% were trolling with nightcrawlers.

Pray for some warm, stable weather--it will do wonders for the walleye fishing!  And remember to TAKE A KID FISHING!!

Good Fishing!,

Saginaw Bay Fishing ReportCapt. Dan
July 7, 2008

Hi everybody.

This report won't be much longer or different then the last few. The fishing over this past 4th of July weekend has stayed Red Hot. Virtually every corner of the Inner Saginaw Bay and in virtually every depth range in it, is producing limit catches of walleyes. And every single technique you want to use is producing. Cranks, Ka'Booms/Reef Runers and Tot's. Spoons, Stingers Scorpions/Silver Streaks behind Jets and baby Dipseys. Harnesses of all types and sizes behind Bouncers/Keels/ XPS weights or any other diving/weighted device. And as a concerned user of this resource, I just hope that when you do limit out that you are thinking of the fishery and not harming more fish just for the fun of it. We are all being blessed this year with an amazing resources near us and saving us Buco Bucks in gas dollars in travel money to other fishing destinations. I hope all of us are doing our part in preserving it. I also have lots of weekday dates open for the rest of July and most all the dates into August. If this fishery acts the same as last year, we will have good fishing right through the summer. So it's not to late to book a trip with friends or family if you do not have your own boat for the job.

As always heres a few recent pictures and be safe, fish smart and tight lines. . . (pictures).

6-26 and 6-27
The fishing on the Saginaw Bay continues to be outstanding with limits on both trips.  It is truly amazing that the fishing is holding up this well considering we have had severe weather moving through the area daily.

The fish seem to be more concentrated in the upper part of the water column and are really on the feed, puking up all kinds of baitfish in the livewell.  Crawler harnesses 20 feet back with a 1 ounce weight caught the majority of the fish.  Waters from 18-24 feet were the hot depths.  We only caught one walleye on bottom bouncers in two days of fishing (I always have two dragging bottom) which contradicts a lot of the reports that are out there.  Raise the baits up high, get them away from the boat, and fill the livewell.

Harbor Beach MI Fishing Report
July 15, 2008
King Salmon fishing is still very slow but some are still being taken in closer to shore and out as far as 60 to 120 feet of water, Straight out and North of the harbor first thing in the morning.  Try fishing the top 50 feet of water for best results.  Fish those color lines, the fish have been setting in them.  Best lures are still the small Pro Kings, Mini Silver Streaks and Small Dreamweaver lures in Greens, Coral, Blues, and Black colors with white or glow.  You might want to try some two and five color lead (led) lines too.

Some Coho Salmon are still being taken in the same areas using bright colors like coral, orange, yellow, and chartreuse for best results.

Lake Trout are being taken in 60 to 120 feet of water straight out and North of the harbor using ghost colored dodgers with silver colored spin and glows and small spoons fished close to the bottom.  Some other colors to try are yellow, white with pink dots, or green colors.  Regular and mini size clean spoons trolled fast (2.5 mile per hour) have been working well also fishing top to bottom.

Perch fishing is still very slow, try minnows fishing around the lighthouse or South by the cemetery.

Bass fishing is still very good inside the harbor casting or trolling body baits and spinners.

Steelhead are being taken Straight out and North of the harbor in 40 to 120 feet of water.  Best lures have still been the Orange or bright Pink Dreamweavers or Silver Streaks.  Don’t fish too deep, they have been coming in the top ten to twenty feet of water!  Look for those color lines for best results.

Walleye are being taken straight out of the harbor and as far North as Grindstone, try trolling a crawler harness with night crawlers or small spoons for best results.  Coral colors have been working well.  Fish the 20 to 60 foot of water areas, fishing top to bottom.  A slow troll should work best.

Good luck fishing and Keep those lines tight!
