Updated Saginaw Bay Area Fishing Report by Captain Dan Posted: 12/12/2011
Hey everybody. Sorry again for the laps of time between reports. The last couple of weeks have either been to cold or wet for Ol' Capt.Dan to get back out in the boat. Seems every time we planed a trip, Mother Nature would throw us a bad weather curve ball. Of course we go through this unpredictable open water to ice transitioning period every late fall and it doesn't get any easier to put up with. The river fishing for walleyes did not seem to improve much since my last report, possibly having a lot to do with the weather again. The perch fishing however, did improve at the Saginaw and Quanicassee Rivers Moouths, as well as the Bay near the shipping channel out as far as the first spark plug. And I've heard that these last few days have really produced some real jumbos for those willing to suffer a bit with the cold wind and air temps at these locations. Me and the brother did manage to get back out for one last open water walleye trip and I managed some revenge on some BIG Northern Pike from our last trip, where they cut my line and took both of my Capt.Dan Custom Fire Perch Bombers. With Franks being temporarily out of them, I was forced to custom paint some up using my own air brush kit and reeked my revenge on these toothy lure steelers on that last trip out. Those pictures are below. We also caught a few other walleyes using them and by the end of that day my own new paint jobs were totaly destroyed. Me and my son Brian also made a couple of trips to the Tawas Pier just after deer season opened for White Fish and did O. K.. Those pictures below as well. I'm guessing those will be my last open water reports for this year. And it might be a while before I post any ice fishing reports. So until then, be safe, fish smart and tight lines. .
